Henrietta Boggs-MacGuire, originally from Birmingham, Alabama and now residing in Montgomery is the 1st First Lady of Costa Rica. Married to a Legend, Don Pepe is the autobiography of Doa Henrietta's life during her time in Costa Rica and marriage to Don Pepe Figueres, former President of Costa Rica. From a young student at Birmingham Southern College to the first, First Lady of the Second Republic of Costa Rica, Henrietta propels us into her life of adventure, marriage, exile, motherhood, revolution, and leadership in this remarkable memoir. It begins in 1940 when Doa Henrietta received a postcard from an aunt and uncle who had settled in Costa Rica after living in several Latin American countries. A riveting story of Henrietta's courtship, marriage and presidential life with Don Pepe. Thrust into Costa Rica's revolution and center of power as a wife and mother, she courageously adapts to a new life in vast contrast to her Alabama youth. An engaging, well-written book candidly and humorously told, Henrietta provides fascinating insights as an eminent force during a critical era in Costa Rica's history.Product details

Well written and highly enjoyable. A great first person view of the events and personalities that shaped modern Costa Rica. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Pepe Figueres is a name to be remembered in Costa Rica's history. It was nice to read the side of the story from the Henrietta's point of view. Very easy to read and full of interesting details of our countries history.
Great info on Costa Rica of yesterday. Thanks
Learn the history of costa rica through the eyes of one of the most famous presidents wifes in history!!
Interesting facts San Jose, Costa Rica was the second place on earth to have electricity after New York. One of only two countries to abolish its own military and become a country of peace.
Henrietta Boggs (an american) tells the story through her points of views of her lifes story.
Her story spans years beyond those in this book. Her nearly 100 years have been special. She is special
Excellent history from a woman at the heart of an important segment of Costa Rica's history. Knowing as much as I do about Costa Rica, it was important for me to learn even more about this family and the revolution that set up Costa Rica as a strong, peaceful democracy! Loved it!
Henrietta Boggs provides a personal look at a legendary Costa Rican figure that one would not normally see in a history book. The reader gets an insite into the kind of a father and husbnd he was as well as the social conditions in various Central American countries in the '40s. Well writen, easy reading and a must for understanding the culture of Costa Rica. I highly recommend it.
