"I have brought a super child," Tatiana announces. "I do not know where she comes from, but she is one of us. Until we can return her to her parents, I will be taking care of her."
"Wait, wait, wait," Blackjack says, getting up from where he was lounging on a couch. "You can't just bring in some random super! Kid or not, we need to know what she's after, right?" Yes, he's Blackjack, he looks exactly as he does in my time. Heroes don't age like normal people, they just stay the same for who knows how long. Well, outwardly, at least.
"Are you out to destroy all of civilization, kitten?" Tatia asks me in a bland tone.
"Um, no?" I offer.
"Good enough for me!" she says cheerfully.

I absolutely loved this book! If you were disappointed over the time travel issue in the last one, you'll be happy with how it's all resolved here. We learn a lot about Superior & Nico (who I'm starting to have a crush on). I actually love the way the time travel was handled and I love getting snippets of other characters in a different time period. This book focuses on Noelle who is stuck in 1978 and worried that per powers won't ever come in. When they do, Grandpa Nico has her train in the past with Jason as a safety measure. It really expands the Cape High world from the original teens & I love seeing Noelle's parents all grown up. There are so many different directions RJ Ross can take with this series now and I can't wait for the next arc.Product details

Steampunk Time Cape High Book Seven Cape High Series 7 eBook RJ Ross Reviews
Another great cape high book. I was I little concerned about how the time travel issues would work out, but it was neatly handled. I love the series, please keep writing them. I'm looking forward to Emily's story.
This book was cute. I was disappointed that there wasn't more of the steampunk element. Cape High series is great! I recommend these books to readers that want a good story. Keep in mind these are YA books, but they are entertaining.
Not my favorite in this series, maybe because sometimes it was a little confusing at times due to the time travel. But still liked it and kind of need to read to understand references made in books after.
I felt this was almost two different books, both short.
The first 75-80% of this was the hinted at time travel tale as Noelle ended up in the past where Technico was 2 years old and his mother was still alive.
And its a very predictable mess.
Time Travel is a very tricky plot line to use, and sadly in my opinion R J Ross was just absolutely horrible at making it work. There are too many timelines all thrown together, which means you have characters constantly worrying about "what if I change the past", but then rushing off in attempts to change it, or fighting other time travels to prevent a change since they feel they already got it right.
It's hard to read, and sadly not all that interesting. Character development is thrown out for the most part and its made clear that Noelle and new character Jason are effectively one-shot characters destined to end up in the future after this story and hopefully not seen again until the timeline catches up to them. (knowing RJ I expect we'll see them in 2-3 books and it will be another disaster of a story.)
The thing that saves this is the last part, which is all about the characters from the series going to a movie premiere for Mega. For the first time in a while, RJ actually looks at how the relationships play out. She examines how the characters are being seen by the average "peasant" in her world, and how they relate. These stories are touching, cute and build up so much on the foundation that is Cape High.
In truth, this book is definitely worth it for the final section about going to the movies. I'd give that a high 4 star rating.
The time travel section is almost a 1. It's not a fun read, and the characters were grating. In the end I averaged it out to a 3.
Here's the thing about these books I genuinely like the story Ross is telling. It's adorable, and I want to support her work as an author. But I have never recommended this series to anyone. I don't wax rhapsodic about it with friends, telling them to overlook some of the flaws in the story. This is very definitely a Guilty Pleasure in the sense that I'm slightly embarrassed that I keep reading them. This latest installment isn't helping matters.
We have finally come to Noelle's book in the series. I will say this for Ross whether she intended to do so or not, Noelle is very, very clearly Zoe's child. I haven't been this annoyed by a main character in the series since Zoe's book. Every other sentence out of Noelle's mouth is a variation of OMG SHUT UP AND STOP DOING PERFECTLY LOGICAL THINGS WHILE I STAND HERE AND FREAK OUT? (To be fair, I suspect Ross has tweens of her own, or deals with them on a regular basis, and this particular facet of the character might be a little too close to reality.)
I found myself rushing through Noelle's POV portions as quickly as possible. This made up for the fact that I had to slow down with the rest of it because the plot is overly complicated for the kind of writing Ross does. Her stories are usually pretty straightforward "good guys foil bad guys" type of stories. Here, Ross tries the red herring. It's up to you whether it works or not.
If I understood it correctly, there are six time travelers-possibly five, I stopped trying to keep track-trying to change the past, stop the past from being changed, get home, and babysit? I *think* Ross intends for this to be confusing as Noelle is openly confused on the page, but as the reader, *I* should not be confused. And that's where it fails. It's just plain hard to understand what's going on, where the conspiracy is, what's moving the characters, and (most importantly) why the reader should care.
I feel as though Ross plotted this book, rethought some of the elements, and didn't completely clean up after herself when she put the pieces together. The plot diagram is a Pollock painting.
tl;dr Fun book in spite of itself (less fun than previous installments due to Nicolas, Nico, Nico from 2014, and Technico). Unfun protagonist. Fingers crossed that Ross finds a firm, but kind editor who can help her shape future installments into the nuggets of gold they should be so I can recommend them to others.
The most complex of the Cape High books. Morgan's growth in realizing that her father, Shawn Matkey, is simply too dangerous, too selfish, to ever be allowed to be free, is painful and yet inspiring. What an amazing young woman! Nico's willingness to put aside his hatred of his father to go back in time with him, as a team, to rescue both Titania and Noelle is both complex and hard won.
Technico is my favorite of the many fine characters, skillfully developed, throughout this YA sci-fi series. I look forward to more entries in this series. I could easily see the entire series in a big screen adaptation.
